Development Of an Ergonomic Nursing Chair Prototype Model Based on Anthropometric Sizes in Postpartum Mothers
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Breast milk (ASI) is the best food for both containing nutrients needed by babies to grow and develop, therefore it is important to provide exclusive breastfeeding to newborns up to six months of age. However, when breastfeeding mothers often feel pain/soreness during or after breastfeeding. This is caused by the wrong breastfeeding position and the lack of ergonomics of the breastfeeding chair that is not right for breastfeeding mothers. This condition can cause musculoskeletal disorders for mothers.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to design and develop an ergonomic breastfeeding chair with an anthropometric approach.
Methods: The research method is descriptive. The sample in this study were postpartum mothers in the hospital. The instrument used in this study was an anthropometric measurement sheet which was carried out to measure the physical dimensions of the design.
Results: The results of the study obtained were a prototype chair according to body dimensions with a backrest size of 83.83 cm, armrest height 60.7 cm, chair length 52.4 cm, seat height 48.9 cm, seat width 52.61 cm, backrest width 52.53 cm, and armrest length 23.6 cm.
Conclusion: The dimensions of the chair can be used as a basis for designing a nursing chair and are in accordance with ergonomic aspects.
